New drivers in Ontario must go through the Graduated Licensing system through the Ministry of Transportation before they can get a full driver's license.
G1 Driver
- You should advise your insurance company that there is a G1 driver in your house.
- There is no premium charge for a G1 driver.
- Completing a course from an approved driving school will reduce future premiums, provided the driver has no at-fault accidents or chargeable convictions.
G2 Driver
- A premium charge will apply for a G2 driver.
- Credit will be given for one year's driving experience for completing G1 and the G2 driver will receive a rate reduction of 10% for all coverages for a period of one year.
- Driver training discounts also apply, where applicable.
