The Seniors’ Care Assistance Program

Our life expectancy continues to increase, and the fastest growing demographic in Canada are centenarians (those who live beyond 100 years). Centenarians grew by 41% between 2011 and 2016. For the first time in Canadian history, Canadians aged 65 and older now outnumber those under age 15.1
As we age, some everyday tasks may begin to become challenging or even unbearable to perform. Some seniors who experience challenges may show no signs of physical discomfort and can go unnoticed by loved ones. Knowing when a parent, elderly relative or even yourself are in need of more care can be challenging.

Look for the following signs that may indicate that you or your loved one may need assistance:

  • Household or personal hygiene is neglected
  • Meals are sparse or skipped completely, or there is little food in the house
  • Activity and mobility become limited
  • Increasing loneliness or isolation
  • Routine home repairs go unnoticed and important bills get left unpaid
