At OTIP... Your Privacy is Protected
OTIP respects your privacy. Not only do we respect it, but we protect it. The personal
information you share with us, stays with us. Protecting your privacy means we keep your
personal information and the business you do with us in strict confidence.
Information about you
In order to provide you with requested products, services and advice, we require specific
information. The information we gather about you varies, depending on your request. We
may need to collect the following personal information:
- name, address, telephone number and e-mail
- date of birth, gender, family and marital status
- driving record
- previous insurance and claims experience
- details of the property you wish to insure
- medical and health information
- employment information
- banking information, credit rating, payment records
- identification numbers (including SIN when legally required)
We may verify the information you have given us with various organizations, including
your employer, prior insurance providers, credit organizations, motor vehicle and
driver licensing authorities, financial institutions and medical professionals.
Why we collect your personal information
When you become an OTIP client, we will collect, use and disclose personal information
for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate. In addition to your
name, address and telephone number, we may require information to:
- authenticate your identification
- understand your needs and eligibility for products and services
- recommend products and services to meet your needs
- provide you with ongoing services, establish and maintain communication and respond to your inquiries
- enable us to acquire or renew an insurance policy for you
- investigate and settle your claims and determine your eligibility for benefits
- protect you and us from error or fraud
- comply with legal requirements
Protecting your information
In order to protect your personal information and your right to privacy, OTIP will:
- not collect, use or disclose your personal information for any other purpose than those we identify to you
- keep your personal information only for as long as we need it to fulfill the stated purpose or as required by law
- safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access or disclosure
Who we disclose your information to
We will provide your personal information to those you have authorized us to release
the information to. Most often this will be insurance carriers, financial institutions
and professionals working with us such as adjusters and lawyers. When we release your
information to another organization, they must meet our comprehensive privacy standards. We
do not sell your information to other organizations and we do not share your health information
without your express consent.
Your rights
As a valued OTIP client, you have the right to access and correct your personal
information. You may refuse to allow us to obtain, use or share your personal information
and you can withdraw a previously given consent at any time. However, by doing this, you
maybe limiting or even preventing our ability to provide you with the product or service
you desire. We will be happy to discuss the situation with you to help you with your
decision. By providing your consent for us to collect, use and disclose your personal
information, OTIP can better provide you with the personalized services and products you've
come to expect. This may include - but is not limited to - special product offers, contests,
new discounts, coverages, products and services.
