Celebrating support staff workers and their contributions to Ontario’s education community

OTIP (the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan) is thrilled to recognize two support staff workers for their contributions to the education community.

Nominated by their colleagues and selected by a panel of OTIP judges, this year’s OTIP Support Staff Worker Award recipients play an integral role in their education team and are an important part of students’ success.

“We are happy to recognize these leaders for their dedication to the education community,” says Vic Medland, CEO of OTIP. “This award recognizes the important role that educational support staff workers play within schools across Ontario, and our recipients are shining examples of what the Support Staff Worker Award embodies.”

Congratulations to:

  • Marc Letts, Renfrew Collegiate Institute, Renfrew ON – Office Professionals, Custodial and Maintenance category
  • Vickram Bachan, Central Technical School, Toronto ON – Educational Support category

Marc Letts is described by his colleagues as an integral part of their school support system. He views a school as a community – a community where students can thrive if positivity and good relationships are fostered. To foster good relationships with the students, Marc looks out for their well-being and helps to identify students that may need a little more support. Click here to learn more about Marc and why he is being recognized!

Vickram Bachan is a leader in motivating and inspiring students to overcome obstacles, give back to society and be the very best version of themselves they can be. He has founded and ran numerous school programs and clubs, including a poetry book written and illustrated by students in grades 4, 5 and 6, called 'Planting Seeds for Change.’ This initiative invited students to submit poetry and/or art on the challenging issues of the day, such as the pandemic, racism/discrimination, climate change and homelessness. The books proceeds were donated to youth mental health. Click here to learn more about Vickram and why he is being recognized!
