Celebrating Support Staff Workers and their contributions to Ontario’s education community


Waterloo ON (October 25, 2021) - OTIP (the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan) is thrilled to recognize two support staff workers for their contributions to the education community.

Nominated by their colleagues and selected by a panel of OTIP judges, this year’s OTIP Support Staff Worker Award recipients play an integral part in their education team and are an important part of students’ success.

“We are happy to recognize these leaders for their dedication to the education community,” says Vic Medland, CEO of OTIP. “This award recognizes the important role that educational support staff workers play within schools across Ontario, and our recipients are shining examples of what the Support Staff Worker Award embodies.”

Congratulations to:

  • Sandi Woodbridge, Jeanne Sauvé French Immersion Public School – Office Professionals, Custodial and Maintenance category
  • Shawn Taylor, Chinguacousy Secondary School – Educational Support category

Sandi Woodbridge is described by her colleagues as “the glue that holds our school together”. A natural leader, Sandy shows incredible devotion to the staff, students, and families in the Jeanne Sauvé French Immersion Public School community.  In addition to the regular duties of her role as an Administrative Secretary, Sandi knows, understands, and advocates for every student and family to walk through their doors. Her colleagues say that Sandi doesn’t  have the word “no” in her vocabulary and is always eager to  step in and help. She supports field trips, takes part in the school’s annual Fun Fair, track and field days, school concerts and book fairs. She actively participates in spirit days and her Halloween costumes are always a favourite!


Shawn Taylor is a relationship builder with a passion for seeing the best in the students at Chinguacousy Secondary School. In his role as an Educational Assistant, Shawn goes above and beyond to help student succeed. His commitment to supporting students is described by his colleagues as “unmatched, genuine and inspiring”. In addition to his work in the classroom Shawn is also very involved in all aspects of school life. He runs and is involved in many extra-curricular activities and is committed to making Chinguacousy Secondary School an inclusive and supportive community. A true advocate for students, Shawn is adamant that there are no limits on a student’s abilities and has helped many students achieve their goals.
