Customized Coverage

OTIP offers plans to all members of the education community, including those who are not full-time.

Life Insurance

 

Life insurance includes $50,000 of coverage and an equal amount of Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. Basic life and AD&D coverage must be purchased in order to obtain coverage for health and/or dental. For additional coverage, consider one of our Personal Life Insurance solutions.

 

Extended Health Care

 

Extended healthcare coverage includes:

  • Overall health maximum of $20,000 per benefit year
  • Prescription drugs – 80% reimbursement; dispensing fee cap of $8.00 per prescription, mandatory generic substitution (lowest cost therapeutic equivalent drug)
  • Vision care – 100% reimbursement; $300 per person per 2 plan years combined for eye exams and prescription glasses
  • Paramedical services – 80% reimbursement;
    • $500 combined maximum per plan year for clinical counsellors, marriage and family therapists, psychoanalysts, psychologists, psychotherapists and social workers;
    • $1,000 combined maximum per plan year for services of a chiropractor, osteopath, podiatrist/chiropodist, massage therapist, naturopath, physiotherapist, dietician and nutritionist (Note: per practitioner maximums apply);
    • $300 per plan year for speech therapist
  • Hospital services – 100% semi-private room reimbursement
  • 100% ambulance services and private nursing reimbursement (up to $10,000 per plan year)
  • Hearing aids – 100% reimbursement; $1,000 per person per 5 plan years
 

Dental Care

 

Dental care coverage includes:

  • Basic and preventative procedures — 80% reimbursement (based on current year ODA fee guide in effect on the 1st of January 1 year previous to the current year)
  • Periodontal and endodontic services — 80% reimbursement
  • Major services – 50% reimbursement
  • $2,000 overall maximum per person per plan year

Application

All eligible members who join are required to stay in the plan for 12 months, from September 1 to August 31 each year.

If you want health and/or dental coverage, you must purchase life and AD&D coverage.

Proof of good health will be required for new members by completing the Application for Insurance and Evidence of Insurability (EOI). Your application is subject to approval before you are eligible for coverage.

Who is eligible?

As an education employee, you can apply for coverage if you:

  • were contracted for a minimum of 30 working days during the previous school year; AND
  • are actively at work for the current school year under a participating School Board or Employer.
